ELECTIVE POSTING OF DYNO RESULTS:
Posted upon consent of member; please check back for updates.

HP ratings will be lower than numbers posted by BMW
- HP here is measured at the rear wheels (power to the ground)
- HP numbers from the factory are measured at the flywheel
- power loss is transmitted through the drivetrain from engine to the rear wheel (transmission, drive shaft, axle, etc.)
- bear in mind performance numbers are affected by ambient weather conditions as recorded toward the bottom of each dyno graph.

Flywheel Horsepower vs Rear-Wheel Horsepower:
http://www.enjoythedrive.com/content/?id=26050

Quote:
"The difference between flywheel horsepower and rear-wheel horsepower will vary from vehicle to vehicle, depending on many factors," adds Gale Banks Engineering, "but we find that rear-wheel horsepower is usually between 18 percent and 25 percent less than flywheel horsepower."

Yep, the HP differential between manual and step was more than I thought it would be.

Hi uhaulball,

That's why I posted this above:

normal loss for auto is 20%, the #s the 330i auto put down should be about 10hp more and a few more ponies for the 6mt. The numbers look low.

A HUGE thanks to Michael for putting this event together!!! Another holla goes out to all the participants and to those who agreed to post the results!

Thanks for the info!

Dynos are not standard. Further, results vary with conditions, so I do not get caught up in the over-analysis of any dyno results.

Is it an e36 or e46 m3? Just asking because I know that D motorsport in UK makes 1000hp e36 m3.

Numbers may seem low, but . . .

"The difference between flywheel horsepower and rear-wheel horsepower will vary from vehicle to vehicle, depending on many factors," adds Gale Banks Engineering, "but we find that rear-wheel horsepower is usually between 18 percent and 25 percent less than flywheel horsepower."

Based on this, I calculated expectations under OPTIMAL CONDITIONS for rear wheel horsepower for the 2006 E90:

325i
FLYWHEEL HORSEPOWER: 215 hp @ 6250 rpm
Rear WHEEL (18% less): 176.3 hp calculated off factory numbers
Rear WHEEL (25% less): 161 hp calculated off factory numbers

330i
FLYWHEEL HORSEPOWER: 255 hp @ 6600 RPM
Rear WHEEL (18% less): 209.1 hp calculated off factory numbers
Rear WHEEL (25% less): 191.25 hp calculated off factory numbers

Run conditions were less than ideal (hot day, increased humidity). Yet, regardless of this, our dyno runs were still generally on par and occasionally better than what would be expected as calculated from factory specs within statistical margin of error.

So the numbers were right on the money.

Mac! Your sheet looked like my old vtec ones before I installed the Apexi Vtec controller. Have you considered getting a VAFC to smooth out that spike at 6K?

The trunk was the reason they would not let us take any photos so yeah we noticed. The rear fenders were not widened at all but I believe they cut and reshaped the inner fenders. I felt it and it's completely flush. Oh and the fronts are rubbing on the car.
