buying a blow off valve in California?
I want to buy the hks bov off z1 motorsports but bovs are not carb legal and other websites mention that they won’t ship to California. On z1 motorsports I can buy it but I want to know if my package would actually deliver or will it be seized?

If the seller is willing to ship it to you, it should be delivered. Most sellers are getting strict though. Once it’s in your possession, then what you decide to do is on you.
Either that or black helicopters will surround your house moments after you submit your order. Good luck! |

BOV cant be sold here now too? Wow. So lame.
Back in the 90's/00's those things where on the shelves of every import tuning shop around! I remember being able to pick what horn, spring that you wanted to use on them. How things have changed...

Right on!! I had aftermarket BOVs for my Eclipse GS-T, GS-T Spyder, VR4 and MK4 Supra, back when turbo timers were a thing. Can't believe these things are banned now....these CA lawmakers just have way too much time on their hands.

I think they've always technically been banned due to CARB. I got a ticket for one back in 2001. It got dismissed in court but it was a substantial fine if it would have stuck. Well over $1k and that was when I was a poor college student and 2001 dollars.

So of you're making a build that you will take out of state for competition, it's illegal there? Mere possession of parts illegal (not installed)? Constructive Intent is highly difficult to prove, and unless the law specifically criminalizes possession there's no reason not to ship. But retailers will defer on the side of caution to avoid any potential legal ramifications, unfortunately. So States enact loosely worded laws, to create fear, and achieve what they couldn't otherwise, but legislating something that couldn't stand legal scrutiny. But this garbage all started with the Obama administration that wanted to empower the EPA to regulate ANY vehicle and or engine modifications at all, yes, even in professional racing as there was no intended exemption... Luckily those efforts fell through, but in Cali, where they're absolutely nuts, it seems to have been preserved.
So, if I'm an out of state driver, do they stop my vehicle at the State border and check my vehicle? Disallow entry to the State? Give fines, etc...? Is a joke! |
