Finding Businesses on Location

I was trying to find the local Kragen, so I went to Nav, and then Information - On Location - Business & Services - Services- and then entered 'Kragen'; search within 25 miles, but no results. So then I enter Starbucks, and still no results... so how do I find local services/shops?

I'd assume it'd be somewhere under restaurants, food...I dunno, the information on the nav SUCKS because of the fact that you have to enter the category it belongs to...there have been numerous threads about this topic.

Has anyone figured out how to modify the disk so that everything falls under one category / search?

There's an older thread somewhere here for category merging but the software that was used to do this kills the effort (Matlab). It would indeed be a worthwhile effort!

Does anyone have this code?

I could take a look at port it to C# or something. Could be quite useful for re-organizing categories or creating new ones that are area specific.

I've seen the source code from DrFluid, and even though my Matlab is rusty, I believe it could be rewritten into Perl.

ruby, perl or C# will all do, we just need someone to undertake the effort once I can do this in perl easily but with a newborn in the house, it's not going to happen anytime soon.

I'd be happy to help. I know ruby (and other languages) better than PERL, but I've never seen a line of matlab.

Starbucks are easy to find -- go to dining & entertainment>restaurants>coffee shops and don't even enter a name, just have it pull every coffee shop within X miles. It lists them closest to furthest. One is bound to be a Starbucks.

For other POIs, I agree it's a lot harder, because you have to figure out what category it is in. At least restaurants has "all restaurants" as a merged category. I wonder why the others don't at least do that?

So OP, did you ever find Kragens?

I posted a similar question: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129421

I PMed him a few months ago about this and he was not willing to part with the completed merge. He told me to check out adding speed cameras or other POIs to become familiar with the programming language. He said after I know the language I could do a merger. Since I don't know any computer languages, it was of no help to me.
