Why is the Jb4 or JBM for the M3/4 still a beta version??
Hello,
normaly a beta version means something is not finished for me or something like that. The JBM starts as a beta version and it is still a beta version. Has anyone a idea if they will bring in the next time a standard version non beta?? best regards |

Development is ongoing. New features are added, bugs are being worked on, firmware updates, etc...which is why its still in beta. If i were their marketing guy, i'd remove "beta" and use "JB4 S55 Pro Edition" instead. I agree with OP, beta to me sounds like something thats incomplete.
Firmware v3.10 1) Modified CAN Flap operation per DEMO Video #3. 2) v3.10a removed trans flash option during CANflap change. A couple users reported it caused the car to shift to neutral when engaged. We're working on a better dash indicator for the CANflap operation. Firmware v3.9 1) Added various meth integration and large turbo programming. 2) Setup logging so that any time PC is connected and logging started CANbus logging is active. 3) Added CAN Flap feature per DEMO Video below. Firmware v3.6 1) Added new map changing programming shown in video. JB4_S55 Map Guide as of v3.6 Firmware: Map 0: Disable JB4 / Full Pass Through Mode Map 1: Stage1 map adding approximately 40whp and 40wtq across the power band on pump gas. Suitable for all stages and fuel mixtures. Map 2: Slightly more aggressive version of map 1 intended for vehicles with exhaust modifications and 93+ octane fuel. Can also be used with E85 and racing fuel mixtures. Requires Stage2. Map 3: Slightly less aggressive version of map 1 intended for vehicles running on lower grade fuels such as 91 octane. Requires Stage2. Map 4: OEM performance but with JB4 active for datalogging only. Map 5: //M low torque (evaluation) map. Map 6: Custom tuning map. Map 7: Race gas map. Requires 100 octane unleaded fuel and for the fuel mass connector to be installed. Can be used with or without the EWG connectors but will make more power with the EWG connectors installed. This map can also be used with up to 35% E85 but in some vehicles & conditions this may cause a high fuel pressure drop and resulting stuttering. If this occurs drop down to map 2. Map 8: Methanol Injection map. Requires BMS FSB controller or methanol kit for progressive mapping and safety systems. For pump gas a meth additive of 30 is suggested while for race gas/E85 + meth up to a 75 additive can be used. The higher the meth additive the more aggressive the boost curve. A meth additive of 60 would be roughly equivalent to map 7. Note: For race use only to enable the automatic clearing of passive codes (real codes will continue to show a light in dash) set FutureUseD = 90. Firmware v3.5 1) Enabled the desperately needed torque limiting for launching. Although the field is labeled "max boost 1st & 2nd" it's actually "boost reduction 30mph & 50mph". As shown here these settings lower boost by 5psi under 30mph and 3psi under 50mph. The actual values can be fine tuned for your particular tires, track, and situation. But this has been working well for us so far during testing. 2) Added second bank AFR logging under the AFR2 channel allowing both banks to be monitored independently. 3) Added fuel trim logging under "trims". 4) Added road speed logging as MPH under the "I Avg" parameter. We'll give it a better home soon. 5) Added low fuel pressure monitoring under "FP L". Expect to see around 72psi under normal circumstances. FYI when testing higher amounts of E85 we've found high pressure drops before low pressure drops indicating no immediate need for low pressure pump upgrades in this platform. 6) Maps 1-5 are additive maps meaning boost is added to the stock curve. While maps 6-8 are absolute targeting maps meaning the target is largely independent of the OEM boost target. For maps 1-5 we adjusted the logging such that the target parameter now reflects the additive boost. 7) By popular demand, we've started work on an //M map, which will be under map 5. The idea behind this map is to simulate an naturally aspirated vehicle by holding boost lower at lower RPM and increasing it at higher RPM to give the sensation of pulling to redline. While this may not be ideal from a performance perspective for a turbocharged application it's certainly provides a unique driving experience. Firmware v3.4 1) Redesigned map 2 to a be a more aggressive and higher torque version of map 1, intended for those using exhaust modifications with pump gas fuels. 2) Added map 3 which is specifically designed for 91 octane and lower grade fuels. Known Bugs 1) A couple reports of issues getting the EWG connections working on full stage3 installs. The work around is to run stage3 without the EWG connections in place and contact technical support for further directions. 2) A bug has been reported where the map switch indicator, flashing the DCT shifter LED, can under some circumstance trigger a transmission shifter warning in the console. The warning goes away when you push the iDrive button. We'll look in to it.

Once asked about delimiting vmax, they sad not in near future
But it would be so nice to have this option. This is one of the reasons to go ecu tune, not piggy box Last edited by z00m; 02-26-2015 at 05:18 AM.. |

Beta generally refers to the last release before production. I would say since you can go to tons of websites and buy it that the term beta shouldnt be used anymore. Updates post production are just well updates.

BMS uses the "Beta" monicker on products that are actively undergoing A LOT of development. Their pre production monicker is an "Alpha" product. Since development and features are being added almost weekly the "Beta" monicker is in place.
The "Beta" really is there to tell people that updates (firmware) will be coming out regularly. The hardware is set 100% as far as I know. Hopefully that explains it. Mike |
