As an aside, related to previous comment - where the hell do you buy dress shirts when you're 5'11" but don't weigh 300 lbs? I actually dragged my roommates' girlfriend shopping with me a couple weeks ago, ended up at Brooks Brothers which was the only place that had "slim fit" fitted shirts, only got four and paid too much for them, and my choices were apparently blue and white. I'm *this* close to starting to have my shirts custom tailored for lack of any other choices, but I really don't make the kind of money that allows one to do that...

Rolex has a green crystal over one of their watches, but that's some bigger $$$. The vintage seas master should hold up well, just take it to get it properly serviced and the case properly revealed and it should stand up to the elements again. (Worth the money for the piece of mind in my opinion.)

I'm about 6'4 and about 200lbs with a 32-33" waist. Very wide shoulders. I take a XXL in slim fit or an XL regular fit. The regular fit still fits like crap around the middle, but it tailors well.

I have started having shirts tailor made for me. Well worth the money if you wear shirts often. My left cuff is even bigger then the right to accommodate wearing a watch. They throw a monogram in the neck for you for claiming at drycleaning and other simple touches. They fit perfect. Get into a place during a sale, and it is worth it. Full price is a bit tough to swallow. Also, some people require 2 different sleeve lengths, so this is also a good sales point.

What's the general consensus on the Rolex submariner? Got the opportunity to buy one at the moment, but just wondering if there are other watches you all recommend for the same sort of money as a pre owned sub?

My opinion of the sub is that it is a good watch, but being a diver it's a lot of money to spend on something that isn't a dress watch, and also I think it may be overpriced for what it is because of the Rolex name.

That said, it's also an icon so if you like it, and unless you have a job with a super-strict traditional dress code nobody will look at you twice for wearing it so... have at it!

Steel Sub was my first watch, and I Love mine! Steel Subs hold their value too, mine I can sell today for more than I paid for it a year ago. This cannot be said for a lot of other watches.

Great watch. I say "go for it" but I'm biased. IMO you can't go wrong with a steel Sub, even if you decide you want something different later, you can sell/trade it without much, if any losses.

That's the reason I was thinking about buying used, as the depreciation is pretty much evened out and if it does depreciate it certainly won't be at the rate a new watch loses.

It's a 2005 steel sub with black face and bezel. Going to see it when in London on work, and will take the cash in case the deal looks worth it.

I like the Sub as it can be dressed up and look good, while also being a good daily wearer regardless of dress.

just be cognizant of condition. Just like cars, a little "patina" and wear is acceptable on a vintage piece, but on something that doesn't qualify as "vintage" any deviation from "showroom condition" devalues the watch.

The one I'm looking at has been refurbished and serviced by Rolex prior to the sale. Hoping the watch will be in showroom condition for me seeing it

I've seen some Rolexes that were refurbished, and the cases were ground down so far that you couldn't even catch your fingernail on the raised section of the case where the bracelet attaches. An un altered case also has a very slight bevel on the edges.

Meh, it is what it is... not everyone can afford a Rolex Daytona - and even if I personally could, I'd feel odd dropping that much on a watch. (and I'd probably go for a vintage Heuer or Speedy anyway)

Quite honestly, so long as the metals and leathers match your belt and shoes, that's more effort than most people put into dressing up anymore

Lol, I wear ripped jeans, t-shirt, and zip up hoodie. Only ways people can tell I have money is if they look at my wrist, cars I drive, or my boat. But walking down the street, you wouldn't look twice at me for my wardrobe. Stopped caring a few years back.

If I have to dress for an occasion however, I slip on a custom made suit and parades, then stand in front of my watch collection for 10 minutes trying to figure out the classiest watch for the occasion

I have my priorities. When I need to make an impression, I make it. Otherwise, it's a lot of work being high maintenance. I don't know how girls do it...
