I stopped by my local Wal Mart this morning to see what they had. All the odd-ball and shotgun stuff was fully stocked, but all the popular calibers were gone. There were 6 boxes of 7.62x39. No .223, no .308 and I got their last box of 9mm.

Surprisingly, they were fully stocked on 30-06. Has everyone else seen this to be the case? If so, maybe I'll make my battle rifle a CMP M1 Garand. I can get a "service grade" one for $625. Does anyone know how good those are and what kind of accuracy I can expect? I'll be pushing almost a buck a round compared to $.25 for .223, but clips are only $20 for 25.

Buddy of mine owns a gun shop and said, "We have no popular ammo left, don't know when we are going to be getting more due to the demmand, and are not able to even order handguns right now. I wouldn't expect things to change any time soon either."

Looked in a few other places, and basically nothing besides shotgun was left there.

12 gauge shotty is everywhere though
I've got 6,000 rounds of ammo in my closet waiting for my safe to get here. All purchased within the last 2 months. I've got 1,000 rounds set to ship out tomorrow and 10,000 rounds set to ship out on the 5th of Feb.

About 10,000 of it is .22 and the rest is mixed between 5.56, 9mm and .45apc. I plan on back ordering some more 5.56, 9mm and .45 while i shoot the piss out of my .22lr at $.05 a pop.

Just received

If any of you guys find a lower parts kit at your local gun store/show, please let me know. It's the only part that has my build on hold.

the most expensive lot was for 600 of 5.56 at $.513/ round. Everything else was less than that by a good bit.

I need to dig around and see exactly what I have, it is certainly far more then I have ever had before. Not paranoia, I just want to be able to play with my toys, and do some training when I have the time.

I've been looking around for a battle rifle for a few days. There are some nice PTR-91's for about $1700 on gunbroker. I can get a service grade Garande for about $650 from CMP. That's a crap-shoot on quality, plus an antiquated design, but it has an interesting historical signifigance and shoots readily available 30-06 ammo. I'd really like an FAL, but they're running about $2k now.

However, I was looking in a local online ad and found this...

Quote:
Selling/trading my CETME rifle. Comes with case, two 20 round magazines and 180 rounds of .308 ammunition. Gets 2-3" groups at 100 yards over open sites. The magazine release is a bit loose, but other than that it functions flawlessly. Selling because I finally realized I'm too poor to be shooting .308. $625 OBO ($500 for gun, $100 for 180 rounds of .308 and $25 for case) .
I hear CETME are crap quality, but 2-3" groups are acceptable, plus it comes with a nice little stock of ammo, and I can get as many 20-round mags as I want for $4 each. Best of all it's local and I'm sure he'll accept cash. That's probably about as cheap as you can find a semi-auto battle-rifle, especially in these times. I don't plan to shoot it recreationally very often- that'd be a waste of .308. I'd probably get a bolt gun to shoot for fun. It'll be a just-in-case high-power battle rifle with no paper trail to more or less store away and forget about.

Opinions? Anything I should be mindful of inspecting a CETME?

In all honesty, another $300-400 will get you an AR-15, if you can find one. You won't be getting a Daniel Defense but you could pick up a nice Bushmaster or RRA for that price. I would hold off. But that's just me.

1) Not these days. Prices are absurd in the scare- more like $1500
2) I already have an AR-15 with scope, irons, and red dot, 8 mags and well over a couple thousand rounds I just want something more powerful.

Let me check my LGS. Last time I was there, they still had Bushmaster and Windhelm ARs for $950. If they do, I'll send you their contact info.

I appreciate it, but I'm good with one AR. I'm really looking for something in .308 or 30-06

RRA .308 is a nice rifle. Bought one last year with stainless steel floating barrel and added a nice Trijicon scope and really like the set up. It's heavy as hell with the longer barrel so I would recommend a rail to add a Harris bipod if going .308 long barrel. The ammo around here is $.80 to $1 a pop though. Since Daniel Defense was mentioned above, just bought M4 V1 for $2800 which is what the going rate seems to be on gunbrokers.

Yea no joke! We have a gun dealer (stealer) that has the best selection around until Dallas, and they know it. They have a DDM4 V4 for $3500!! They have essentially doubled ar prices and raised all others about 30%. But you either buy from them at their prices or search online! Plus they are complete assholes when you go on there. Worst customer service I have ever experienced at a firearms dealer. And it gets worse with each announcement from BO and Biden!

I've gotten some decent deals on hand guns recently, but there is some madness on anything that's "scary"

silvergrey545 in all seriousness, if you have a better place to look at, please inform me. What I have discerned is if you want a basic entry model with a more common caliber, you can probably find something at your local sporting goods store or even Wally World with some patience. If you want anything above this, esp for increasing quality, your options are gun dealers, maybe gun show or pawn shops, or online. Online has the best selection but you are going to pay premiums for the more sought after firearms and calibers. Manufacturers are months behind on orders, or simply not producing any more right now since they have no idea yet if the next batch they make will have to destroyed. So if you are looking for a specific model or brand, you better get it, but prices keep rising as availability decreases. It's definitely a sellers market, and nothing you can really do about it right now.
