I want my uncle(Ex Blackwater) to custom build me an AR, but he said it'd be about $1900. So, I'm looking at a Sig 1911, and Sig AR15.

This hobby is going to be expensive

Yes it is. I was also interested in the Sig AR, I ended up buying Daniel Defense. Do some research...its part of the fun anyway.

A big +1 on this. Daniel Defense has emerged as one of the leading manufacturers of fighting-grade M4-style carbines. I trust my life to one as well. My other carbine is a Colt. Colt OWNS the TDP for the M4, and that in and of itself is good enough for me.

+1000 on Daniel Defense. Great company. Great gun. I'd stay away from the SIG AR. Play with both, shoot them if you can and do your reading. Or buy one of each!

I think that someday, I'd like to have a Wilson Combat, a Les Baer, and Nighthawk Custom as well. In no particular order. And also a Springfield Professional.

BTW, do you have a link to that site? I went to "gunslingers.com" and it was not what I was expecting it to be.
I've been reading on the 1911 forum and there seem to be a decent number of people poo pooing NHC. However the threads that talk about sending their pistol back to NHC seem to revolve around menial BS issues. I mean for that amount of coin i would want mine to be pristine as well, but they are sending them back because there are some brass markings on the slide from ejection. I'm trying to keep expectations down but i cant help but imagine how this is going to feel and handle. Hopefully it meets my expectations.

Here is the link. http://www.migunslingers.com/index.html

George is a super nice guy. Spoke to him on the phone last night. I next day aired him the money but he was planning on shipping it either way!! Makes him cool in my book. I would buy from him again for sure.

I'll be able to judge my Sig 1911 against what should be a top shelf 1911 in the coming days. I have to get you some better feed back soon, but at this point i would not have a problem recommending it. I haven't had a failure to feed issues once it was broken in. After 300 rounds it's been solid. Also, i took the Glock 22 (.40cal) to the range along with the Sig 1911 the other day. Was actually giving my parents some pistol instruction. Both of them were shooting about 35" groups with the Glock 22. I gave them the Sig and both of them on their first mag with the Sig shot 5" groups at the same distance. I was amazed at that and decided to shoot the Glock 22 also. I put the same amount of rounds through each pistol but i shot the Sig at about double the speed and the group from the sig, with mag change, was a third of the size. I went 2 more mags with the sig at the same speed as the glock and dropped my group from about 12" (with the glock) to 3" (with the sig) at the same distance. As it turns out, i can achieve the same accuracy with the Glock, but i have to shoot very slow and concentrate much more.

Both of my ARs are colt variants. Both operate flawlessly and still look brand new. That Daniel Defense seems like a sweet rifle though!

I agree about doing your research. It seems there are plenty of options out there to choose from. I decided to stick with colt because i didn't have the patients to do the reading and testing. Plus i bought mine several years ago.

Picking up the 1911 and my kids/girlfriends Remington 870 youth next Saturday. Got to play with my Springfield at the store the other day. Sooo smooth. Can't wait to get it, but the Mossberg is pretty damn sweet and keeping me entertained. Brought it down to the range yesterday and shot 5 rounds of regular and wobble trap. Took a bit to figure out the physics of it, but I am shooting consistent numbers (nothing impressive yet). It's a lot of shotgun for $450! Definitely satisfied, but now a friend of mine is looking to replace his absolutely stunning 3 week old Remington 1100 and shopping for one of these beauties below (Beretta 686 Silver Pigeon Sporting). So I am now planning for that next shotgun I can't even afford right now. lol

Oh, and I just came back from the range. They had a comedy show inside the 100 yard rifle range. lol. I've never seen anything like that before, but wanted to go and support, since all proceeds go to range improvement. They had a raffle at the end, so for the first time in my life I have won something! A Pelican case for a 15" laptop, which will easily fit 4 handguns

I bought a O/U Franchi Renaissance 12g 2 years ago and am incredibly statisfied with it. It is such a beautiful gun for the money (1200 If I remember right) and performs beautifully. Super light for long upland game hunts with lots of walking.
Heres a crappy pic, Ill post RL pics later today maybe. I think it MAY have been discontinued.

This is a different rendition, but you get the picture.

+1 on DD. I love my DD upper w/ Rock River lower. The lightweight barrel w/ omega rail is worth the money. I built it myself after doing much research and the knowledge of the guys from ADCO firearms(http://www.adcofirearms.com/). Fantastic service and knowledge.

You guys are making me want to get a 1911 as my next purchase. I had originally been looking at a revolver as my next purchase, specifically a S&W .44 mag or .500 mag.

My collection so far:
H&K USP 9mm
Mossberg 935 semi-auto 12 ga
1970's Remmington 870 Wingmaster(back when "wingmaster" meant something)
AR15 DD upper/RR lower

It did not seem to affect my lack of skill so it is therefore not a suitable excuse. Previously, I would tend to go left and high, but, for the most part, I seem to have that under control (still do it sometimes, but no where near as bad as before.....usually...lol). I had, however, done some dry fire exercises to help me diagnose my tendency to shoot a bit low. For me, shooting low is the new "left and high". I was pretty sure my trigger control was the culprit. My noobness on the trigger would cause a slight muzzle dip of varying degrees. By the end of my hour at the range, I shot some pretty good groups (for me). Granted, these were fairly close range, but I figure going out too far is just wasting ammo (and $) at this point in time.

The pix below are where I ended up at the end of my session. The first pic is w/ the CZ (75B) at 5 or 7yds...I don't remember but it may have been 5yds since I was occasionally deviating from my normal 7yds. The second and third are with the Buckmark; from 7yds and 10yds, respectively. For the latter, I was feeling cheap so I started aiming off center (purposely, I swear!) at various spots to see how well I could group my shots. I marked up the image to indicate the various spots I was aiming. It could've been a lot worse. It didn't help that I was starting to not focus on my front sight as well since my contacts were bothering me a little (should've swapped out for a new pair last week). I also started rushing since I was almost thru my bulk pack of Federal 22LR and my range time was up....didn't want to bring home a near empty box of ammo!

Anyways, it is a good feeling to notice some improvement! I figure to gradually move out to longer ranges as I am able to consistently get a tight grouping on my shots. I'll bring out the XDM more at that point in time, too.

BTW, ybbiz, curious but what is making the XDM line of Springfields grow on you (vs the XD's)?

Collins, that sucks about your FTF issue. Hope it gets diagnosed and resolved soon.
Where is that range?

Thanks for the compliment.

Definitely take a look at DD. I'd also consider Bravo Company, Noveske, and of course Colt. As far as Sig I don't know much about their other products not in the handgun category, so can't give an honest opinion on them. Good luck with your search though!

Thanks for the link my friend. I'm sure you will be happy with it. Just remember that anything made by human hand is imperfect. What really counts is how it shoots.

And as far as people complaining about brass markings, they must intend to never shoot or carry the pistol. I mean I understand that the pistol is expensive but the vast majority of these custom 1911s are built to be workhorses and not safe queens/display pieces (unless it's one of those fancy engraved pistols).

And Colt carbines, well, what else is there to say? They remain to be the gold standard of the AR-15/M4 platform

Outstanding choice. Very nice stick. I am loving that setup, too. Everything you need and nothing you don't.

Excellent recommendations. Bravo Company (BCM), Daniel Defense, Lewis Machine & Tool (LMT), Noveske, Colt, and Knight's Armament all make top-quality AR-15s. We're fortunate to be living in time where there are so many quality AR-15 manufacturers. Competition results in better products.
