Concentration is key and for some people taking that extra moment to pump a second round can be a distraction to their focus/aim. It all comes down to what works best for you.

And +1 on the O/U comment. I've shot my friends Browning O/U and while it's nice and everything, for the money you can buy two or three shotguns.

Good luck with your purchase.
Thanks! I am pretty set on a sem-auto Mossberg 930 for now. Found one for $445. Perfect for a beginner like me, inexpensive, super customizable and got excellent reviews.

I've shot a bunch of different ones at the range, and the ones I liked the most were Beretta Urika 2 and Remington 1100. Both are out my price range for now, however.

I looked like an idiot trying to load the mags. Both the glock and XD have a pretty strong clip. I definitely have more respect for Jack Bauer now.

I'll look into the speed loader, thanks.

S&W M&P 9mil is hands down the most comfortable gun i've ever held in my hand. it's amazing! shoots pretty well too. I'm heading over to my local gun shop at lunch to leave a deposit on one, so they order it for me.

Springfield XD-9 is comparable, but I like the feel of M&P way better, plus replaceable grip inserts on M&P are great, so the GF and the kid can shoot it with their tiny hands and stop whining about the 1911 being too heavy for them. 9mm ammo is way cheaper than .45 ACP too. They always want to go shooting with me, and i can't stand seeing 3/4 of their rounds going straight into the back of the range, completely missing the target.

I've heard nothing but good things about the M&P. You should try to shoot them before you buy them.

I just ordered 1000 rounds form ammoman. worked out to be 23.75 a box. Same as shooting a 45 these days. I can't wait to pick it up! 3 20 round mags!

Also, more recently picked up a 'poor man's Sig'...a CZ-75B. I'm wondering if I shouldn't have gone w/ the SP-01 since it has rails on it. This thing fits like a glove, though.

Both have been the range on several occasions. This last time sucked pretty bad since I'm finally making it back to the gym and my tri's and front delts were sore as fook. Kinda hard to hold steady... Actually...my shooting hand is a little sore....I think I was overcompensating by gripping tighter <---(not sig material, Mike!).

Having a Uplula speedloader is a big help! Collins, it's worth the few bucks for it!

Question for others....what do you have for a range bag? I'm currently using a LA Police Gear bail out bag as a range bag. Not bad for $20 and not too big. I'm thinking of swapping out for Midway's Compact Compt range bag, though. The bail out bag would then serve duty in my MCS' trunk to hold my misc stuff (e.g. compressor, puncture kit, etc...).
Jeff, I would NEVER As for a bag, I like Maxpedition's bags. Extremely durable and you should only ever need to buy one.

Also, the CZ is a badass piece.

if buying .45 in bulk at a gun show, it comes out to $16/for a box of 50.
if you buying at your local gun shop, its close to $30.

Truthfully, I was just quoting retail. I never pay that for 45 since I have some sweet hook ups. Plus, I'm a bit skeptical of other peoples reloads. But thats just me. I haven't found better for 5.7 though. Time to start reloading.

I fondled one of these today (Kimber Custom CDP II). It sure is pretty but I am well aware that some Kimbers have serious reliability issues. I'm not going to fork over $1,200 for a paperweight.

Ive owned three of those, one in each size. I never had a problem with any of them. I'm not a fan of aluminium frame 1911s so I got rid of them, but I have no other complaints.

Kimber makes great guns. Yes, there are MIM parts you can replace with something better. Put in short recoil spring guide, replace plastic mainspring housing, replaces cheap stock mag with mec-gar and you will be good. Any gun can malfunction, even the high dollar unobtainium stuff.

I have an ugly-as-sin Kimber Pro Raptor 4" I've heavily modified over the years. It's been absolutely dead nuts reliable. It's been de-MIMed, bobtailed, and I replace the recoil spring every year. I shoot 200gn +P TAP out of it, it is one of my main CCW guns.

And it's very comfortable to shoot, after the thumb safety was replaced.
