I've shot a bunch of different ones at the range, and the ones I liked the most were Beretta Urika 2 and Remington 1100. Both are out my price range for now, however.

Springfield XD-9 is comparable, but I like the feel of M&P way better, plus replaceable grip inserts on M&P are great, so the GF and the kid can shoot it with their tiny hands and stop whining about the 1911 being too heavy for them. 9mm ammo is way cheaper than .45 ACP too. They always want to go shooting with me, and i can't stand seeing 3/4 of their rounds going straight into the back of the range, completely missing the target.

I've heard nothing but good things about the M&P. You should try to shoot them before you buy them.

As for a bag, I like Maxpedition's bags. Extremely durable and you should only ever need to buy one. Also, the CZ is a badass piece. |

Truthfully, I was just quoting retail. I never pay that for 45 since I have some sweet hook ups. Plus, I'm a bit skeptical of other peoples reloads. But thats just me. I haven't found better for 5.7 though. Time to start reloading.

I fondled one of these today (Kimber Custom CDP II). It sure is pretty but I am well aware that some Kimbers have serious reliability issues. I'm not going to fork over $1,200 for a paperweight.

Ive owned three of those, one in each size. I never had a problem with any of them. I'm not a fan of aluminium frame 1911s so I got rid of them, but I have no other complaints.

Kimber makes great guns. Yes, there are MIM parts you can replace with something better. Put in short recoil spring guide, replace plastic mainspring housing, replaces cheap stock mag with mec-gar and you will be good. Any gun can malfunction, even the high dollar unobtainium stuff.

I have an ugly-as-sin Kimber Pro Raptor 4" I've heavily modified over the years. It's been absolutely dead nuts reliable. It's been de-MIMed, bobtailed, and I replace the recoil spring every year. I shoot 200gn +P TAP out of it, it is one of my main CCW guns.
And it's very comfortable to shoot, after the thumb safety was replaced. |
