Dancehall is more "pop" while reggae is laid back....think of it this way, Dancehall is club music....if you like dancehall, look @ Elephant man, Beenie man, Bounty Killa for starters...Beenie man-Sim Simma lyrics go like this:
Sim Simma/Who has the keys to my Bimma?? lol...he's an idiot Beatnuts are sick man...no escapin this |

No time to read this thread.. I'm mainly about the beat myself, but I can't listen to some ridiculous rap.. All the radio stuff is trash and overplayed.. -___-
Anyways.. Try some more classical.. Get a bunch of Yann Tiersen!!!! Yo-Yo Ma is also one of the better choices. Throw in some Bach, Beethoven, Pachelbel, Vivaldi, Mozart, and maybe some Aphex Twin. I wish my Classical playlist was bigger.. only 43 songs.. Someone tell me some good cd's. For rap.. I also have a small playlist, as I mainly listen to a TON of random music that I cant all categorize. A lot of P.O.S. is good. Throw in some Ludacris, Lil-Jon, Timbland. I mainly have a bunch of different singles.. You have to get 'Blueberry Yum Yum' by Ludacris though!! A lot of the Wutang I have heard is pretty good, and as much as I dislike Kanye West's music he has some good beats to chill to. If you like mainly beats get some Girl Talk, he mixes a bunch of rap together and makes some nice songs. I'm not gonna lie, Justin Timberlake also has some pretty good songs. Maybe you just need different music in general?? Some of my favorite bands are Outkast, Modest Mouse, Alkaline Trio, 30 Seconds to Mars, etc.. Some other good bands are Bishop Allen, Klaxons, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Spoon, Placebo, Lily Allen, The Futureheads, Albert Hammond Jr., Tunng, MeWithoutYou, BrainStorm, Basshunter.. Thx south, I need some more good bands. Quote:
Yuhhh, ATB is good, get some Benassi Bros as well. If anyone knows of any good bands from any genre with some links to them, I'd appreciate it. I have a lot of foreign music, so language doesn't matter. Singles are my best friend. -Nathan

I have two categories in my ITunes. I have RAP and I have Hip-Hop. I consider a distinct difference between the two. Anyways, Nabil, bring your IPOD tonight and I'll copy a bunch of my songs over from my ITunes at the meet.

I would 100% recommend outkast based on their ability to combine excellent lyrics with wide ranges beats from various genres. Versatility. As for the synopsis on lil wayne—you must be mad not to agree that lil wayne is far beyond the pack as far as lyrics are concerned. That said, at times I question if he even writes his lyrics based on the fact that before “The Carter” he was merely average to me. None-the-less, listen to “The Carter” and “The Carter 2” THOROUGHLY, granted that you don’t do so with bias, I think you will quickly reverse that judgment. Next…. On the topic of reggae vs dancehall…. Reggae is generally more cultural, conscious, and slower. Reggae is generally not club/dancing music. On the other hand, dancehall is exactly what the name implies, it is a form of reggae that is made for dancehall/bashments/clubs. I would not associate dancehall with pop—more closely linked to hip hop. Some simple research will show dancehall and hip hop were developed relatively around the same time periods and both borrow much from eachothers culture and style. Rap/hip-hop origins were greatly influenced by early dub and dancehall as well as American blues. Moving on… if you like Bob Marley, I would also suggest modern artists such as collie budz, jah cure, and damien marley If you like sean paul, also check out artists such as beanie man, shabba ranks, shaggy, sean kingston (yes unfortunately), baby cham, and rupee (though he is generally a soca artist) Bennie Man is one of the greatest modern dancehall artists. The man is internationally acclaimed, and was the second reggae artist in history to ever receive a grammy (first being shabba ranks). Unfortunately for us music is a busieness, and artists like sean paul, elephant man, and beenie man do alter their styles to appeal more to an American market. With the exception of sean paul, these reggae artists grew up in the slums, making money does become a priority. Additionally, an understanding of Jamaican culture is necessary to understand why reggae artists speak about the topics that they do (informants, ‘Kingfish’, batty-men, and the list could go on for days…). Understand before you criticize young padwan… ultimately, you should download older beenie man and sean paul songs to see whats really good--before they entered the American market.
