Fastest NYC Lap

For those who have read Alex Roy's The Driver you know he holds that record for fastest lap around NYC, it seems like that is no longer the case.

Looks like the only laws they broke was speeding, they stoped for lights

http://jalopnik.com/5816679/watch-th...ound-manhattan

For those of you who live in NYC you got something to strive for now.

Meh,
I drove from Brighton Beach in Brooklyn to my house in the Bronx by the Fordham in about 25 minutes deep at night. In my GF's RAV4. Average speed on FDR was around 70mph, this guy is barely doing over 60 judging by how fast he overtakes other cars (speed limit on FDR and WSH is 45mph, people usually drive 50-60).

Now to all the people in the South or those that have never drove or know what FDR is. FDR is the road where 90% of us crack and bend our rims on. There's no way you can safely drive over 60-75 on it in a BMW. Loaner yes, own car? Fuck no.

They should have slowed it down for the "jump" just before the boat basin on the Henry Hudson. My favorite feature of NYC driving.

I always speed up on that part if the traffic allows

I have the same Gumball shirt that he is wearing! Got it as a crew member in 2010. That record is something I would like to break one day.

are you kidding me? i can fuck that record up. but, i'd rather not go to jail.

but seriously, they did it in a saturn sky convert? thats how they didnt get caught , cops wouldnt even notice it. By time any of us reach the 6th minute I can assure you, someone is going to call the cops and report "a bmw driving recklessly".

Kool points to the dudes who did it tho glad they didnt catch you

Our M's attract more than enough attention to cops. Give me a Camry and I'd risk doing that.

You should carefully plan it out and get your car vinyl wrapped in black for added stealth

FDR's gotta have at least 7 terrorist living under those potholes near the QB bridge exit.
Hitting a pothole and waiting/hoping for the flat tire sign to turn on is part of driving in NYC. I bet 90% of the people driving in nyc went thru that rush LOL.
All that money in NY goes to the government locking up innocent people for smoking weed. LEgalize the dam crop and fix the dam road.
Gotta love NYC

K... go out and time yourself. You wouldn't even come close. I took that route from the ferry station to the Midtown tunnel every single morning for almost 2 years in my 335i. I did it at 4 am with no traffic. I think I could match him or go faster for that part of the route, but the rest of it was a little ridiculous. He knew the specific timing of the lights and he also knew how fast he needed to go to reach the next red light. He looked as if he also knew exactly which light he would have to stop at. There was a TON of work put in to do the lap in 26 minutes.

It was a Sky Redline btw. Car handles extremely well and is quite quick..

I think you are correct, there is more to what he did than driving fast. it looks like he hit the lights just right a number of times.

That is amazing. And for those of you who think you can beat that record, think again. You have absolutely no idea what goes into something like this. Do yourself a favor and read The Driver.

One thing to note, and I don't know if it has any relevance towards the record breaking, but when Alex Roy set the 27 minute record in 2001, the WSH at the area of the Twin Towers was totally different than what these guys drove through. I don't know if it gave Alex Roy or CBC any advantage or disadvantage at all.

That section of road down there is terrible. It also has the most Fucked up light timing in all of Manhattan. They were having serious bottleneck problems during the day and have tried to work on the timing. I take that route home to Murray hill anytime I leave the Holland Tunnel. Can't tell you how much time is saved by staying on the outskirts as opposed to trying to go cross town.

I used to take Lincoln Tunnel via WSH to home on the UES all the time. That road turned my old CH's into squares.

ohh word.... i meant it in the sense that i wouldnt wait for any lights. there is a device to change lights to green, all i would need is to get my hands on this and its game over. but yeah, without the cheating device I would have to do at least 10 tries on this to memorize the timing of the traffic lights.

id just spend 2 weeks monitoring the lights section by section and figure out what to do. but no way would it be easy.
