opinions on ad

i had to make a print ad showing resonance which is a play on words.
the idea is kind of eh but i would like suggestions on the ad itself. making a magazine ad is harder than i thought lol. i'm not too thrilled with it and would like some feedback. thanks guys

The "needle and tread" thing is kind of cool but seems more like an ad for tires than for a car. Maybe should have a tagline touting the grip of the tires your selling.

Maybe less is more for the design too... it's a bit too in your face.

That's my 2 cents.

I agree with your feedback, but I'd like to add that the 'in your face' approach is consistent with Pontiac's brand image

Do you have to use "needle" and "tread"? "Needle" and "thread" (the basis of your use of needle and tread, I assume) really have no place in the automotive world and the image for needle is a little obscure... Not that I can come up with anything better at the moment.

Nikki..how bout this. Let's keep the needle and thread motif idea for a moment....and start off with an actual needle and thread weaving through a silk sheet, then you present the idea/concept that the new Pontiac Solistic needles and threads its way through corners as effortlessly and as needling through soft silk sheets...or something like that.

Not much better but maybe using wheel power as a play on will power?

I like the metaphor, but doesn't resonance need to strike a chord with its target market?

This is very tough.

Didn't BMW recently have an example of resonance marketing with their new E92 Coupe d'etat?

You mean in their actual ad design? I just meant that it should be more spaced out (i.e. have more empty *******.... most car ads do.

I think that would be kind of hard to illustrate in a print ad.

that's a good idea, i'll work that over.

the only other things i came up with were kind of just words not sayings.

one was revvolution or revvolutionary and showing the guages
the other was soulstice and showing a jazz club or something, but i don't know how to incorporate the car into that, but maybe i don't need to

What about a picture of that car with Winter background (e.g., Christmas trees, snow, etc.), with the caption reading "A Winter Solstice."

or "You gotta have Soul!" with a photo of the car's engine. Soul phonetically sounds like Solstice. The consumer will identify "soul," i.e., the car's soul is its sophisticated, powerful engine, and will remember "Solstice."

Hmmm... I like the play on rev and soul. Those are good ideas if you can get them across properly. There might be some other way to illustrate "soulstice" other than a jazz theme. Haha, maybe a trail of notes coming out of a sax making the shape of a curvy road with the car driving on it?

It would be tough marketing a convertible with a winter theme, and I think she has to use a homonym for the intended word.

Okay, then "a Summer Solstice."

Or, an EKG or heart photo showing "Pulse 110," and the Soul of the Car.

"Heart & Soul"

Needle and tread, no stitching required.

Nikki, since you're on the "Needle and Tread" theme, what about adding to the bottom of the ad, "Precision and power by Pontiac--the new Solstice!"

Are you trying to appeal to women who can identify with sewing?
