Looks like snap understeer? Kind of crazy seems like fairly low speeds.

Would not be shocked if it's someone on this forum...

Surprisingly for what he hit and how he did, the car doesn't look too damaged. Totaled, of course. But lights still worked, engine still ran. All I can say is I'm surprised

letting off the gas at the wrong time always gets the car to snap , that's the text book procedure for a feint drift,
unfortunately most people feint drift into walls, sidewalks or ditches rather than corners. glad he is ok, |

You're right. When I was driving sitting next to a bmw instructor on a closed course he kept advising to adjust the throttle but not to brake hence it allowed to make a smooth drift in the coming turn without hitting any cones

The driver was fixated on the rock wall, and he hit the rock wall. There's not much else to it. Bet you as soon as he rounded that turn, and goosed the throttle, the WHOLE TIME as the back end stepped out he was staring at the rock wall the whole time. I used to have an '09 WRX that I would take to the track when I don't feel like driving my BMW. I've driven the p*ss out of that bone stock WRX at Auto Club Speedway, Laguna Seca, and Buttonwillow, and I can tell you it WILL oversteer, even with symmetrical AWD. AWD does not overwrite the laws of physics (nor does it overwrite the laws of STUPIDITY).

E92 328 crashes and flips on Mulholland
Not sure exactly what happened here, was he trying to drift and the car snapped back?

He's inexperienced and broke the rear loose. That's the result. I slide my cars around all the time on public roads and it has never resulted in me losing control. I've got lots of experience at it though, and learned off the street. If I'd tried learned on the street I'm sure I would have wrecked.
