Homelink ?
So just got a f44 in the family 228 xdrive, was shocked to see no homelink.
Anyone know if it can be added via mirror swap? I was already hunting down parts. No real info as of yet. Hoping someone can help.

Wonder if result of chip/supplier shortage. I would think by now Homelink is standard, especially for a luxury vehicle where cheap econoboxes even has them standard.
Best of luck on finding the answer |

I believe it requires Premium package. That being said, all it takes is power connection. We used to add it to E39s all the time by swapping the button section and using the power wire available in the headliner. I assume the Homelink hardware are also self-contained in the buttons or mirror. There's probably a simple Homelink add-on available not from BMW.

Agreed. You just need power. Might be able to get the factory mirror with Homelink and install it....provided the harness is there or you can splice in power.
I did this with my Toyota C-HR. The car came from the factory with an auto dimming mirror but no Homelink. There wasn't a factory option. So I bought a Gentex auto dimming mirror with Homelink. Since power was already there at the mirror assembly, I just spliced in the new mirror. Had to grind out a little of the plastic housing where the mirror mounts in for clearance along with getting an adaptor to provide the clearance necessary due to the short arm of the Gentex mirror. Works great. |

Indeed just can't find that mirror. It does appear to be the same as my x5 but easier said than done haha.

I had a fully loaded F44 loaner just a month ago and was surprised it didn't have it either. Doesn't look like it's even an option for F40/F44 according to this dealer or RealOEM.

Might not be missing much: I haven’t been able to get it working on my BMWs anyway. And when I researched it seems like a lot of other folks struggle, as well.

Haven't had any issues getting mine working on two different garage door openers. Although it seems the signal strength coming out of the factory unit is weaker than the Gentex unit I installed in my Toyota.

I cannot for the life of me get the Homelink unit to learn the signal from the remote. No matter the distance or angle. FWIW, it's a ~5 years old Chamberlain (the opener – car is a 2013 128i ).

I retrofitted Homelink in my old E90, it was hard as I had to split the mirror apart and remove the US spec module and insert a Euro one for where I live.

I've done the 1&3 reset numerous times. The Homelink doesn't ever start blinking rapidly (which is supposedly what indicates it has learned), it just keeps blinking slowly as long as the remote sends a signal. The Homelink hasn't learned the signal, so as best I can tell, it doesn't send anything to the opener itself, meaning the Learn button won't do anything. At least I haven't gotten it to do anything.

If you have two remotes, try programming with each. For my system, one garage remote worked to program in my X5 and the other did not.

Try calling Chamberlain. Something is definitely not right. I have a Liftmaster circa 2012/13 ish. My car is a 2013 135i and I was able to program one of the Homelink buttons to the Liftmaster without issue.
I had to call Chamberlain for support on their MyQ Smart garage controller and the support rep I got was excellent. |
