Those auto zone filters are crap. Either go with the VRSF ones, or CP-E, etc. They're worth the extra monies.

Also, how can you work at a machine shop and refer to figuring out the inside/outside diameter of an inlet hose as a "guessing game?" What exactly do you do there? This thread is befuddling, to say the least.
