I've heard about both of those methods from several friends and think the doctor's note may be easier than trying to change my address.
I don't know how involved they get in looking to an address but I would assume at the very least you have to provide some mail showing the new address. I would never have signed up for such a lengthy contract had I known that the person who sold it to me was lying about what it takes to cancel.
