Look at he early evolution of the Mustang. 65-66 smaller lighter cars, 67 it started to grow, 68-70's it became a bloated pig, 76-Mustang II shrank back down, Fox body years stayed small. The current retro 05-up generation ballooned up in size again. Not so far out of the realm for the next generation to down size. The new Mustang is supposed to be the first Mustang for the world not just U.S. That alone would make a case for a smaller size.
