I sold my e63 M6 a few months ago. It was an amazing car. I did have a few issues, but had the extended warranty on it so they were all covered.

I did a fair amount of work on the car myself, and if you are knowledgable there is a lot of information out there. Go for a 2008 or newer, preferably a 2010 or 2009. Those seem to be more reliable. Also make sure you get an extended warranty, through BMW or a third party.

The M3 is a great, small sports car. The M6, however, sets a whole new standard. People see M3s all the time and they aren't that big a deal. When you roll up in the M6, everybody notices.

It's really all up to you and how much you are willing to spend. The price is actually pretty close to the same now, but the M6 will likely cost you more in the long run. But to me, it was worth it.
