I use a Sony NEX7 with various lenses but it comes in a "starter kit" with a 18-55mm zoom that you can go pretty far with. The 30mm macro is nice for closeups. The new mirror less cameras are all very good, DSLR's can be very big and heavy to lug around. Few examples taken with NEX7:
