Lets see, best result for fewest bucks... I would say you have to stick with a professional whitening treatment - the over-the-counter ones are "ok" at best... most people will probably end up disappointed.
For best value I would suggest a custom tray and take-home method. Takes a little longer and you won't get that immediate "wow factor" as with the 1-hour in office treatment, but you will still get a very nice result.
The daily take-home will also resist staining longer than the quick in-office treatment. With that in mind, the more pricey in-office treatment at my practice includes custom trays and take-home treatment.

In our offices we currently offer a variety of options ranging from the custom trays with specific/different strength whiting gels, Bright smile, and laser whiting. They all work, some faster then others, but they work.
Believe it or not, but our dentists say that Crest White strips do actually work, but since they dont mold to every nook and cranny of your mouth like the custom trays do, the results aren't amazing. . . nor are they quick.
