Tough shoot there. It was a department alumni picnic that I was asked to shoot. Bright, drizzly day and we were under a pavilion roof where it was quite a bit darker. No walls, so every shot was brightly backlit. No fun trying to get a balance. I opted for about +1 EV and just cropped out as much background as I could on each shot. So far, so good.

Yeah, that's either plus-EV or fill flash kind of situation. I usually go for the plus-EV, like you did here.
