No 7:59 whatever in that mag.
Where did you find the '7:59' lap if I may ask?

No, you're simply wrong. They didn't test only 1 C6, they tested 2. One was a Manual with the Z51 package, and the other was a Sports AUTO (tiptronic) with stock brakes, and crap-run tires (i.e - all weather).
Yeah you're magazine isn't the conclusive list, and is probably missing a lot of times, that's okay, I'll fill in the holes in your information.

7:59 Chevrolet Corvette (C6)
Driver: John Heinricy
Note: Z51 package (aka Manuel + Sports).
The 8:15 was done with the AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION or "Sports Auto".

As for the 7:59 run, there is some debate as to who drove the car, some say it was Dave Hill (former chief engineer of the C6 and a very capable driver), or John Heinricy, a professional driver who does a lot of GMs Nurburgring runs. Regardless, it's a time listed on the official list:

The simple fact is there isn't a single BMW in the current gen that can break 8 minutes on the Ring. A normal C6 has done it, with change. Vettes are awesome.
Take what I have given you young one, and learn.
