among comparable models, LCD can not have better contrast than plasma. LCD can't do true black. It gets better with every generations, but it's still shining a light through the opaque crystal, so it's just a very deep grey. Watch LOTR on a calibrated LCD and then a calibrated plasma. No comparison. Plasma is much better with the blacks.
