Interesting. Ferrari has been threatening to pull out of F1, but that was always seen as 'bitching at Bernie' and not very serious. As an action, letting one of the best drivers in the world leave says a lot, but who they would replace him with says more. If they hire another world champion then it's business as usual, but if they hire a someone else (someone cheap), then they indeed might be rethinking their commitment to the sport.
