Personally I'd rather have repairs done to my car then take a chance of having repairs done to myself lol. There's no real benefit of being big and strong when your opponent could have a concealed weapon.
In close quarter combat, unless the perp has a knife, it's not too hard, especially if you have the element of surprise. It also helps to know what you are doing, and preferably, to have been in this kind of situation before. So, I'd be hard pressed to say my life was in danger.
