Not really......
I'm pretty sure it's a just a Catholic thing. Don't know what it's evolved to today, but I was never brought up celebrating Lent, and I'm what you would call a Non-Denominational Christian. I guess "Baptist" would be the closest if you were to categorize it.
I pretty much stopped going to church right around when I started college so who knows anymore.
