Also with a degree you get paid more and you get promoted faster and higher then officers without degree's (i.e. you can't become a lieutenant or captain without a degree and to become a chief I believe you have to have a masters)

These are the qualifications for Public Safety Officer for the City of Sunnyvale. Our PSO's do triple-duty as Firemen, Policemen and EMTs.
At time of application, candidates must:
* have at least two (2) years experience in police work; and
* have a current Basic POST certificate.
At time of appointment, candidates must:
* be at least 21 years of age;
* have completed 60 semester or 90 quarter units at an accredited college;
* possess a valid Class C California driver’s license;
* must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship (Per California Code Section 1031);
* have minimum vision of 20/200 correctable to 20/20, ability to wear soft lens if vision is less than 20/50; and
* be in good physical condition.
