What linux distro are you using? It probably doesn't support the network adaptor right off the bat. You might have to go download some drivers from another PC and then transfer them over via USB or something.
I know something similar happened when I put Linux on my mac. The wireless card was too new so I had to use ethernet and wait for someone to create the drivers for it.
