This isn't difficult.
Just transfer it over the effing network. I assume you have wifi or ethernet switches; fire them both up and transfer it.
Make sure you deauthorize the old mac when finished.
The iPod method wouldn't work btw; once you try and sync the iPod to a new computer it will erase and sync with the content from the new machine. External drive may be easier if you don't have the means or skills to network/share the content.
