FI is currently legal in GTE and GTLM class. They could have run a turbo engine this past season (4.0L is the displacement limit). Just nobody runs a turbo engine because it just adds unnecessary addition parts to fail. Power is restricted in GT class, so why not just run a more reliable normally aspirated engine.
