Perhaps it is not that it came back to you, but in the absence of that which didn't happen - because it wasn't going to - something else, completely unrelated, actually took place, and came to you yet again for the first time. And this new something WAS going to happen, because it DID.

Or in other words, no matter how badly you screw something up.. if you just stop doing it. Something else might happen that you had nothing to do with.. which you couldn't screwed up before it came to fruition.
