Your last sentence sums it up. As the article and Dieter Zetche state, the car isn't trying to fight the F30 for the sport sedan crown. They're making a car that's effectively a short wheelbase S-Class with all of the features and competency anyone could want. Driving experience aside, I'm betthing that this car bests the F30 in any other objective category. The interior is in another league in terms of design and material quality, the tech features are prolific, and the overall package is all-encompassing.

That studded/stippled grille looks fantastic on those models; definitely an upscale touch that I wish was shared with the bigger brother here.
