And lastly, who cares if Vista is used all over the world - if it's good, then I wouldn't care if I'm the only one running it - Vista will be backwards compatible (like all other Windows OSs) so that even if today's programmers skip out on Vista, their programs will still work on Vista.

not all windows OSs are backward compatible. i don't know if you remember when windows 2000 (or NT 5.0) came out, all PC magazines were putting together lists of all apps that will not run under 2000. that's why 2000 in its original wrapping never became a consumer OS. they had to upgrade it to XP (which is NT 5.1) to get shit working.
with Vista, it's hard to say what they're going to do taking in consideration they just started rewriting 2/3 of their code. if it came out as it is planner right now, however, it will be nothing more than just plain Windows XP wrapped in a different skin. so it will sure be backwards-compatible. as it was planned originally though, lots of legacy software would not run on it.
