option1, 235/45/18 square, conservative increase and what i'd do @ the very minimum. link below shows Solidjake with 235/45/18 on 18x8.5 ET35 apex sm-10

option2, 255/40/18 square. link below has Polo08816 with 255/40/18 on 18x8.5 ET38 Apex Arc-8. if you get ET35 it will be 3mm more flush than ET38. either offset is fine, though.

option3, 255/40/18 square on 18x9.5 ET35, modestly aggressive. compared to 8.5", 9.5" is more concave, which i prefer. link has Tato with 255/40/18 on 18x9.5 ET35 Apex VS-5RS

maybe for you i'd do option2 is safest, decent increase but not too crazy. i prefer deeper concavity so i would do option3, personally.
