FWIW I'm in MA and specifically seeking out a RWD car... no steel subframes to rot on you if you don't get all the salt out of the inside of the thing. Winter tires are a must though, and imho even with AWD, you're going to want real winter tires. I've not yet encountered all-seasons that handle snow competently without also sacrificing hot performance beyond the point of acceptability.
