Third party studies have shown that to be far from true. Hell, framerates were only impacted a few FPS moving from XP to Vista on most setups when it was first released. Your framerate issues are 99% of the time due to video drivers that haven't matured yet, not Vista's problem. NVIDIA specifically did a horrible job with drivers in Vista, and AMD didn't do a spectacular job themselves. Most "I hate Vista, Vista sucks" reasons are misdirected at the OS and not the real source of the problem which is third party software or hardware developers. Vista has redeveloped how software and drivers can work and access things which was long overdue, and a lot of companies are lazy and taking forever to optimize their code for Vista.
