I seriously hate that. I drive thru an area on a daily basis where the road should be widened out from a 2 lane road due to the amount of traffic passing thru, but the township fights it tooth & nail so they can preserve their rustic look. Never mind the fact that most of the land people own on either side of the road have huge shoulder separation and the land owners have multiple acres. Ugh...

In IL, the merging lane, by law, has to yield to the continuing lane. Most people don't know or care, though. If the cops really wanted to hand out citations, they need only sit and wait in this spot. It's permanent lane reduction so it's not like people don't know it's coming.
