If I had a kid...especially a boy...who wanted a car...i'd probably get him a beater first (and something with less than 130hp) and actually pay for him to attend some advanced defence driving classes instead...
only once he's driven for 3-5 years and has demonstrated he won't do dumb crap...then i'd think about getting him something newer with more horsepower...
