It's not just gunning, but also driving @ highway speeds. The said i3 range drops like 50% faster @ 75MPH compared to urban driving. Actually, I think this was the problem in my case, as at least half of my daily commute is highway.

What I also learned from this experience is you really need Level 2 @ home (or access to supercharger/level 2 at work), as level 1 (= regular 110V) is painfully slow and insufficient for an overnight charging. Model 3 would probably need 20-24 hrs to fully charge from a household outlet.
